Veterinary Health Technologist Laboratory Instructor

The Department of Agriculture, Geosciences and Natural Resources is accepting applications for a Veterinary Health Technologist Laboratory Instructor, beginning August 1, 2024.

Job Duties:
  • Instruct undergraduate students in classes and laboratories in conjunction with the AVMA required skills and concepts for the veterinary technologist to meet or exceed the VHT program's student learning outcomes.
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate competency in teaching lectures and hands-on lab courses with live animals which may include but are not limited to anatomy and physiology, radiology, beginning and advanced nursing skills, anesthesia and surgery, large animal skills, pharmacology, emergency medicine, animal behavior, and other topics.
  • The ideal candidate will have the ability to implement multiple active learning strategies and the ability to positively interact with a diverse student population using a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion lens.

  • The ideal candidate will be able to transfer veterinary clinical experience to the classroom and help students understand the underlying reasons for their training and will be passionate about helping to develop the next generation of veterinary professionals.
  • Candidate must participate in continuing education pertinent to the position duties and licensure requirements.
  • Administrative duties will include Committee involvement: Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Agricultural Animal Care and Use Committee (AACUC), VHT advisory council, and other committees as assigned by the AGN Chair.
  • Additional activities, including animal care, program record keeping, academic advising, and recruitment, that benefit the department, college, and university are expected. The duties of this position may require work in the evenings and on weekends.

Required qualification:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from AVMA accredited program (or an Associate degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program AND a Bachelor's degree in a related field) is required.
  • Candidate must be a licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (or be eligible for licensure by having passed the Veterinarian Technician National Exam (VTNE) within 6-months).
  • A minimum of 3 years of veterinary experience is required.

Salary Range:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
